Central Florida's Window, Door and Roofing Leader

FAS Exteriors is Central Florida’s largest volume residential window, door, and roof dealer. We have showrooms and distribution facilities in the major metro areas of Tampa, FL and Orlando, FL. The Company was established by the Father and Son team of Ernie and John Wilding in February 2005, with the objective of providing the growing Central Florida community with the best quality windows and doors on the market at reasonable prices, and with a customer service level unsurpassed within the industry.

Customers often ask, “Why the name, FAS Exteriors”? We’re glad you asked! Ernie and John Wilding have been a well known duo in the S.C.C.A. auto racing community for many years. The name of their racing team is “FAS Exteriors Autosport”, a moniker that was coined by John when they started racing back in 1999. When the two men designed the concept for the window and door business they carried over the name from their family hobby.

Working without the knowledge of a licensed contractor can result in fines once an inspection has been conducted. FAS Windows and Doors recommends that you contract a licensed and insured residential window replacement contractor located in Orlando or Tampa.

What are the benefits vinyl windows?

Vinyl windows are the most recent trend in residential window treatments. They are made of plastic materials like PVC. Vinyl windows were first developed in the 1970s. Initially, vinyl windows were only made in white and were created to compete against wooden windows. But now, you’ll find vinyl windows in all colors that suit your home interiors and exteriors. Affordability is the key reason behind the growing popularity of vinyl windows. Residential windows are known for energy efficiency, resistance to corrosion, and cost efficiency.

What are the benefits of aluminum windows?

If you are looking for lightweight, durable, strong, and custom-shaped windows, aluminum windows are your go-to. They require minimal maintenance, but the cost is relatively higher than other options. With proper care, residential aluminum windows can have a lifespan of 40-50 years.

How much does it cost to replace windows in Florida?

The average cost to replace windows ranges across a wide margin when you consider the different window types, styles, finishes, sizes, and colors.

    Window Types:
You have to consider that there are residential vinyl windows, residential impact windows, residential wood frame windows, and residential aluminum windows. These windows can come in standard and custom sizes that definitely impact the cost of your residential window replacement project and budget.

    Window Styles:
Another thing to consider are the styles of windows. All of these are factors in the cost of replacing residential windows in Florida.

The FAS Exteriors team has been servicing the Orlando and Tampa markets with window replacement projects since 2005. Having come across this question quite a bit over the years, we decided to answer it as part of our FAQ to help homeowners as they’re dealing with a scheduled window replacement project at their house.
The FAS Exteriors team has been servicing the Orlando and Tampa markets since 2005 for window replacement projects. We have come across this question quite a bit, so we decided to put it on our FAQ page to give homeowners a little help when they’re dealing with a schedule window replacement project at their house.

    1. Remove blinds, curtains, and alarms
    2. Clear space around windows
    3. Cover any furnishings in your house
    4. Clear out the exterior space of your windows

How long does it take to install new windows?

It will depend on your home and the number of residential windows that are being replaced. Typically a full-frame replacement window (as opposed to an insert window replacement) on a ground level takes 4 to 6 hours. Upper-story windows will take longer. This is why we recommend asking your FAS Exteriors representative about specific window project details before our installation team arrives at your residence.

Do replacement residential windows add home value?

While replacing your home’s windows is a costly project, it can pay off by adding value to your home. According to the 2025 Cost vs. Value report conducted by The Journal of Light Construction (JLC), replacing vinyl windows adds an average of $16,657 in value to a home. Replacing aluminum residential windows adds  $9,000 to $16,000, depending on the type of aluminum used, in value to a home. Not only will you see an immediate value-add, but you’ll gain energy efficiency improvements when you replace your home’s windows.

What type of window is best in Florida?

Florida is known for having devastating hurricane seasons that  result in severe home damage. That’s why our team always recommends that homeowners buy impact glass windows. Impact windows help to better secure your home because they’re nearly impenetrable to hurricane-force winds and windborne debris, especially for homes located in high-velocity hurricane zones (HVHZ).

Is there a sales tax on replacement windows in Florida?

On May 6, 2022, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Home Hardening Tax Exemption relief bill. For the first time ever, it will make impact-resistant windows, doors, and garage doors, TAX FREE. Call FAS Exteriors to learn more about your tax exemption option.

    What windows are hurricane resistant?

Impact glass, sometimes referred to as impact-resistant glass or hurricane glass, is safety glass on steroids. The most resilient impact glass combines both tempered and laminated glass into one double- or triple-pane unit. These types of windows are preferred by both homeowners and home insurance companies because they have wind ratings that exceed 140mph, which is required by many municipalities in the state of Florida.

What is the My Safe Florida program?

The My Safe Florida Homes Wind Mitigation Grant program is awarding government grants up to $10,000 for homeowners in Florida who are looking to get hurricane protection like hurricane windows and impact windows. FAS Exteriors is an approved My Safe Florida contractor. Give us a call today to discuss your My Safe Florida options for your residential window replacement project.

What is the average cost of impact windows?

Although more expensive than standard windows, hurricane windows are likely worth the price if you live in an area that experiences hurricanes, severe storms or tornadoes. In addition to hurricane protection, impact-resistant glass windows can make your home more secure and energy efficient. Hurricane windows range in cost from $800 to $3,000 each including installation.

How do I know if my windows are impact rated?

Look for old paperwork or labels on the windows. In many cases, these features are labeled somewhere on the window. Check the corners of the glass and other inconspicuous areas of the window to see if there’s a label indicating that the glass is tempered or that the window is specifically impact-resistant.
