PGT Industries is closing down?
Well, that’s not the whole truth. The manufacturing plant in Salisbury, North Carolina will shut down at the end of the second quarter of 2011. According to Salisbury Post, an employee revealed the date of the last day, June 30th. The lay-offs will begin January 15th, 2011. About 490 jobs will be lost.
“We expect that the consolidation of manufacturing operations to our Florida facility will enhance long-term competitiveness and improve efficiencies,” reported by Rod Hershberger, CEO of PGT Industries. “We continue to make good progress in executing our strategy during a very difficult economic and market environment.” Furthermore, the company has been scheduled to receive tax breaks for two more years if the workforce doesn’t drop below 300 employees. Not to mention, the company would receive $600,000 from Sarasota County for their relocation change to have their local operations there.
