Entry Door Considerations

At FAS we hope you and your family had a wonderful and safe 4th of July. A popular 4th of July tradition is to decorate the front door with a patriotic themed wreath or floral decoration; and this year was no exception with many Central Florida homes being decorated with red, white and blue.

While decorating your door for the 4th you may have noticed that your entry door may need to be updated. Your front door is the entrance to your home and can have an immense impact on the first impression of every visitor. Entry Doors make a statement about who you are and sets the tone for what people can expect when they walk into your house.

There are several things you should consider when choosing an entry door like location, size, material, and design. Below are just some of the factors you should consider when purchasing a new front door.

Door Size For an entry door upgrade, your entry frame size is going to limit the replacement door that can be used for your home. For new construction or for a more involved door replacement project, there are more available options for sizing due to there not being an existing frame constraint.

Door Location The location of your front entry door should factor into the color part of your purchasing decision. South facing areas experience more sunlight. Sunlight can have negative effects on your front door. If your front door faces south, then consider entry doors that are lighter in color. Lighter colors absorb less heat absorb more heat than darker colors. Less heat absorption means lower energy bills and less heat exposure damage.

Door Material Entry doors come in a variety of materials. Each material has their own set of benefits and features. The top three materials for entry doors are wood, fiberglass and steel. Fiberglass doors resist wear and tear. They can be painted or stained, are moderately priced and dent-resistant, and require little maintenance. Steel doors are inexpensive and can offer security and weather resistance. They require little maintenance and are energy-efficient. Wood provide a high-end look and are also very durable. Dents and scratches are easy to repair on wood doors.

Door Design Today’s doors are manufactured with a number of decorative and energy efficient features that bring beauty, energy efficiency, and added strength to your home. The design possibilities with entry doors are endless. Some entry doors have a decorative finish, some let natural light in, while others provide a modern striking look.>

We hope that this simple list has assisted you in determining what entry door would work for your home. At FAS we are always available to answer your questions and provide you with the best entry door products on the market. Please feel free to contact us today to discuss your entry door needs.
