Sophiep's Take on Things....

Are you aware of the tax credits for replacement Simonton windows? Below are a few requirements to obtain the energy tax credit:

  • Windows purchased must be equal to or below a U-Factor of 0.30 and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of 0.30.
  • The purchase of the qualified windows must be made during the taxable year for which the credit is being claimed.
  • The credit is only allowed on the price of the qualified windows themselves, not on installation costs, on site preparation, assembly or sales tax.
  • The tax credit is allowable only for qualified window units placed in service in 2009 and 2010.
  •

Yesterday's blog touched on the laminated glass for Simonton windows. To further this topic, this link provides what window option with different packages will be qualified for the tax credit. For example, Simonton's StormBreaker Plus does not qualify with the standard glass option. However, there is an optional glass package called the "Super Solar SBP" that could qualify because of the insulating glass unit, super spacer, argon gas fill and the LoE²-270® Glass. Different series have different factors to qualify for the energy tax credit. Replace your windows soon to obtain the tax credit. The first step is to call FAS for the free in-home estimate and it will be smooth sailing from there.
