Overall, most beach side homeowners that I know fare well in the storms through hurricane season, largely due to the fact that they have taken the steps to prepare their homes for whatever storms may bring. Depending on the intensity of the hurricane, especially if it touches the shores, you could be looking at anything from a few days without power to struggling to replace windows or doors. Hurricane season IS here, and you should never take a tropical storm or hurricane warning lightly. Hurricane force winds can cause damage and injury if you're not protected, and now is the time to think about preparing your home for the storm season.

Prepare your windows with impact products!
If you haven't done so yet, get an in-home estimate for installing impact-resistant windows for your home, even if the home you own is not located beachside. Impact windows, while still beautiful and similar to standard windows, are made to withstand high winds and impact of flying objects. You're less likely to suffer though the damaging effects of a hurricane if your home is protected by these products. Though it's still possible to experience some damage, the result is likely to be less severe than if you had normal windows installed.
